A histopathologic basis for surgical debridement to promote healing of venous ulcers.
BACKGROUND Pathologic analysis of deep tissue obtained during debridement of venous ulcers is often unnoticed in its importance. We previously reported pathologic findings on 139 patients with venous ulcers. The objective of this study was to correlate the pathologic findings in venous ulcers with wound healing to establish a negative margin for debridement. STUDY DESIGN Consecutive patients ...
متن کاملEndovenous laser therapy in the treatment of lower-limb venous ulcers.
PURPOSE To assess the efficacy of endovenous laser therapy (EVLT) in the treatment of lower-limb venous ulcers secondary to venous reflux. MATERIALS AND METHODS Forty-four of 139 patients referred for EVLT from January 2004 to August 2007 had nonhealing venous ulcers. Preprocedural duplex ultrasound (US) was performed to document saphenous venous reflux secondary to saphenofemoral/saphenopopl...
متن کاملChronic Iliac Vein Occlusion and Painful Nonhealing Ulcer Induced by High Venous Pressures from an Arteriovenous Malformation
Chronic femoral vein compression (May-Thurner Syndrome) is a known rare cause of deep venous thrombosis. Subsequent angiogenesis and the development of arteriovenous malformation (AVM) in the setting of chronic venous thrombosis is by itself a rare and poorly understood phenomenon. We report a case in which elevated venous pressures resulting from such compression appear to have resulted in the...
متن کاملVenous Leg Ulcer in a Sarcoidosis Patient: A Case Report
Venous leg ulcers, the most common form of leg ulcers, are relevant to the pathogenicity of pericapillary fibrin cuff. Sarcoidosis, a multiorgan granulomatous disease, causes fibrin deposition in tissues. We report a case of a 50-year-old man with venous leg ulcers coexisting with sarcoidosis. On the basis of the histologic findings, we propose the hypothesis that sarcoidosis patients are prone...
متن کاملTopical Treatment of Nonhealing Venous Leg Ulcer with Propolis Ointment
An investigation of effectiveness of topical treatment of nonhealing chronic venous leg ulcers with propolis ointment was conducted. 56 patients were included in the study and randomized into two groups. In group 1, there were 28 patients (ulceration area: 6.9-9.78 cm(2)) treated by means of topical propolis ointment application and short stretch bandage compression. In group 2, there were 29 p...
